Grange Road Consultation

You should have received a letter from Surrey County Council (SCC), addressed to The Occupier, advising you of the Grange Road consultation. The process asks you to;

a. view the details of the proposal on the SCC website (www.surreycc.gov.uk/roadsandtransportconsultations and follow the links)

b. attend exhibitions on the 11th and 13th December

c. complete a Questionnaire.

You can also write or e-mail SCC at wah@surreycc.gov.uk.

The topic is not as straightforward as SCC would like you to think, and although QEPRA are not telling you what to do, you might like to consider the following points in your reply;

a. The shortness of the consultation period (it closes on 19 Dec 08).

b. The inadequacy of the briefing and lack of other options to consider.

c. The biased nature of the questionnaire.

d. The scale of the proposed Option 2 solution in relation to the problem.

e. The impact of 80+ buses plus all the other diverted traffic will have each day, especially in Railton Road, Tylehost at the Tylehost/Forster Road junction. Both bus routes are proposed for diversion, unlike the single diversion during the roadworks.

f. The detrimental effect on Budgens which was significant during the gas main work.

g. Why no other options are being considered.

What should you do? It is important that as many people as possible take part in the survey so that it is more representative of the area. Don’t forget that everyone in your household can take part.

8 Days of Zero Tolerance Police Patrols

PC Mike Patey our neighbourhood Police Officer has asked us to circulate the following information.

“Just to let you all know that from tonight (Tuesday) and over the next 8 days, the Stoughton Neighbourhood Policing team will be carrying out zero-tolerance patrols in and around Stoughton and QEP from 1800 to midnight. The patrols will be a minimum of 6 officers involved as well as some support when able from the response teams and police dog units.

The neighbourhood teams will be mostly out on foot around the area and engaging with any youths in the area and dealing with any incidents reported in.

It is important that any anti-social behaviour incidents are called into the contact centre on 0845 125 2222 or 999 if serious or damage taking place at the time. Any minor anti-social behaviour then can you also try to call either myself or Sheila (07967 986569) first so we can get there soonest.”

Summer Fayre 2008 - a report!

Choosing the right day for a Summer Fayre in the UK is the equivalent of sticking a pin in the line-up for the Grand National or finding the proverbial needle in a haystack. This year was no exception, although we should have remembered the glorious day we had in 2007.

2008 was the year when we had a wonderful week in early May and then a beautiful week in late September. Forget the rest although the weather leading unto and including the weekend of the 8th of August was itself miserable and yes unforgettable. We could argue however that our timing was perfect as we at least enjoyed a three and a half hour window of opportunity, almost rain free from about 1.30 onwards.

As always QEP volunteers were on the ball from 7.30 onwards and we opened for business on time. Thousands of leaflets had been delivered before hand and Eagle Radio had spread the word over the airwaves. Strangely out of the mists came families and friends from far and wide and localised showers failed to deter them from enjoying themselves. This year we were blessed with the help and participation of staff from both Budgens and Esporta who formed the core of entrants for our Dodge Ball and Tug of War competitions. Teams from Stoughton Massive and QEP/Gnoll house were also on hand and the Village Green rang out with the cries of the competitors and their supporters. QEP/Gnoll House won the Tug of War and Budgens the Dodge Ball.

As always Ann Milton was there to cheer on the teams and visit all the various stands and purchase a gift or two from the various craft stalls. The Deputy Mayor Pauline Searle was also supportive of our efforts and wore her regalia even in the most inclement weather. The Police, Fire Brigade, Guildford Climate Change, RockWatch, and the Kent Geologist’s Group also entertained a crowd that fully reflected the fact that the Queen Elizabeth Park Fayre is a firm Fixture on the Guildford Calendar. Hopefully next year will be warm and dry. This the marquees took over a week to dry!
